It took a minute to get used to the quick scene transitions first but not too bad. I was confused by a few things at the end... I didn't fully understand the drugging and dressing up of the demon kids at first..(thanks for clarifying). I was definitely surprised when Felix killed Sol, I took it as maybe influenced by demons... I'll have to think about that one. I loved that there was a major plot twist every 15 minutes or so, but it did kind of lose steam after Esther's death. All in all, I thought it was a fascinating character study.

BTW - I love the explanation of your 10-point movie rating scale. Genius. I just finished this movie...SPOILERS DISCUSSED!!

I just finished this movie, and I'm trying to find a clear explanation of what exactly happened. But, what I think I'm leaning on is, the kids were possessed by a pair of demon lovers. This is still kind of a grey explanation, because the flash back of the kids in the cave makes it seem like they went to the cave to "hook up" before they died, and were then possessed. But it would support the fact that the parents were then possessed together at the end, probably by the same spirits that possessed the kids, (supported by the way he was driving). What I don't get is how the beginning sequence, and the serial killer play into it all.
Also, I hadn't considered that Felix kills himself until I read this. I interpreted the second shot being heard by the gas station guy, as the first shot being seen by his perspective. Then the earthquake that we now know happens when people die in the cave. Yea, just some things that I noticed that I wish I could put together. Good review. I now continue my search for closure, haha. I loved the original too (the scene where the girl gets stabbed in the back haunts me to this day), so I'm really disappointed that they didn't keep to the film's roots and went the same way as the Hills Have Eyes franchise.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07554995227398758235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8967005490926026680.post-71066759633652609302014-04-04T14:16:35.376-07:002014-04-04T14:16:35.376-07:00You nailed it. I've seen it turn up on at least a couple of other blogs, as well. I noticed tonight that it was "Recommended" for me on Netflix.

By the way, agreed that the "coincidence" in Eden Lake was a real eye-roller that totally derailed on otherwise fairly decent movie. I too didn't feel much for Sarah, I agree with you about her not being the most likeable and she definitely didn't seem into the baby - definitely disconnected. I think my main issues with the movie were just characters choices, but now that you've given me reason to perhaps rewatch it (thinking of LaFemme being the only character capable carrying out the task of caring for the baby or surviving life in general :)) it could possibly help me to like it more. I also went into this with crazy hyped expectations, that can also cause issues when you finally see a movie too. Thanks so much for your response~Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02637197654825767682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8967005490926026680.post-67634940329664235312013-12-04T20:33:58.954-08:002013-12-04T20:33:58.954-08:00I generally don't listen to commentaries, so I...I generally don't listen to commentaries, so I have no reason to think the following save for my own gut feeling: the viewer is supposed to be rooting for La Femme here.

I think perhaps it's no accident that Sarah - who ought to seem completely sympathetic being a widowed mother and all - comes off as being such a cold, mopey pill. The initial scenario, based upon what we've all learned to infer based upon the structure of the narrative, would lead one to believe that Sarah is the protagonist with whom we should sympathize. Then every single thing she does and says begins to pile up until you just really couldn't care less about her.

Then La Femme shows up, and she's so crazily committed to getting that baby for herself that the viewer actually begins to kind of root for her. Every single peripheral character makes one bad choice after another, further reinforcing the notion that maybe La Femme should succeed, because she's the only person in the movie that isn't an idiot.

Maybe I'm alone in thinking this, but that last shot of La Femme sitting in the dark calmly rocking the baby just seems right. She may be batshit crazy, but she's committed to that baby. Sarah seemed to just view the prospect of single parenthood as a nuisance, and she was far too caught up in her own drama to have properly cared for the baby when it arrived anyway.

If you ever watch Inside again, go into it viewing everything with the idea that La Femme is the character with whom you should sympathize. It's an entirely different movie.Brandon Earlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04428583919973903171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8967005490926026680.post-28845327378034104632013-11-21T11:28:57.687-08:002013-11-21T11:28:57.687-08:00Thanks Melanie! Thanks Melanie!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02637197654825767682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8967005490926026680.post-71444199743268165462013-11-21T11:18:35.412-08:002013-11-21T11:18:35.412-08:00Great review!
